Fleece Sale

Fleece inspectionA highlight for many is the sale of raw fleeces at Woolfest. Any individual farmer or breeder can enter a maximum of 5 fleeces for sale. Just bring your fleeces along with you to Woolfest in large bags or sacks and each fleece must have 2 copies of the entry form.

A large selection of good, varied fleeces, especially from rare breeds, is an almost irresistible attraction for spinners. Good fleeces are beginning to command good prices too. At Woolfest 2011 we sold 487 fleeces at prices from £3 to £35.

Fleece buyersAnd buyers are encouraged to check the fleece sale area during the event as more fleeces are arriving all the time. If you buy early, don't forget that you can use the Wool Crèche to store unwieldy fleeces until later in the day.

If you'd like some tips from an expert Sue Blacker of The Natural Fibre Company will give a talk on fleece types and suitability for spinning each day in the main ring.

Thanks to our friend Sarah Wroot we have some useful leaflets for those of you hoping to sell fleece and those who've bought some and are wondering what to do with it! You can download them here:
