Woolfest 2010 - a celebration

Woolfest 2010 - a celebration

Over 4100 visitors (as well as more than 100 volunteer helpers and all the stallholders and demonstrators) enjoyed this year's celebration of natural fibres at Woolfest.  Stallholders and local businesses alike enjoyed two days of excellent businesses as enthusiasts from as far afield as Canada and New Zealand (as well as the Scottish Highlands and Cornwall) met in Cockermouth for Woolfest 2010.

Highlights included:
• Auction - More than £850 was raised for FARM Africa by the textile sheep auction - thanks to everyone who contributed sheep, who placed bids during the auction and, as ever, to Adam Day for his fantastic auctioneering

• Bunting - About 45 metres of bunting has been created already, a great start in 2010 and organisers are hoping to keep going and make Mitchell's look even more summery next year.

• Demonstrations - From felting and rug prodding to lucet braiding and basket weaving, many demonstrators and stallholders took the time to share their skills.

• Business - Business was brisk for most stallholders and there was also a lot of interest in the garden and home items that had been supplied by Cockermouth businesses for incorporation into The Wool Clip's display area.  The shuttle bus into Cockermouth town centre proved popular and visitors were encouraged to support the town as much as possible.  Another business that benefited was Horn's Ice Cream of Appleby-in-Westmorland - they have worked out that they sold over 1900 of their ewe's milk ice creams during Woolfest!

• Back to basics - Feedback on Sue Blacker's "Back to Basics" presentations was really encouraging and fleece sales were up as well (over 400 fleeces sold).

The dates for Woolfest 2011 will be Friday 24 and Saturday 25 June 2011.
