All set for the biggest Woolfest yet

All set for the biggest Woolfest yet

Woolfest 2011 is approaching fast and the organising team at The Wool Clip (plus the 100 or so volunteers and all the stallholders) are more or less ready to go. Don't forget to book your Spin In tickets in advance if you can (Friday supper tickets have all gone) - but Woolfest itself is "pay on the door".

We've got more space in Mitchell's than ever before (you'll spot it near the animals) and more than a dozen stallholders around the hall will be running demonstrations (with space to sit down) throughout the event.

We've had visitors from Canada and New Zealand in the past but, for the first time, we have a stallholder from Australia this year too. Helen Rippin and the team of artisan dyers and wool producers from Waratah Fibres Plus will have a range of colourful and tempting fleece and fibre on sale.

Buttons and haberdashery ideas are always popular and we have a new stall for 2011 as well as a few established favourites. Textile Garden will be at Woolfest for the first time while Buttons by McAnaraks, Brimstone Vintage Buttons, Buckles and Fastenings and Injabulo are making return visits.

Other first timers include Jamie Lewis with his hand-felted contemporary wool accessories such as laptop bags and trilby hats and Jenny Barnett whose figures combine ceramics and hand-made felts to create figures, dolls and creatures.

This year's programme (£2) should be well worth the cover price:
• a comprehensive directory of all the stallholders (including the livestock and breed societies) so you'll have a useful reference for once you get home too.
• an "easy peasy" lace knitting shawl pattern included (designed by Rebecca Selfridge of the Wool Clip).
• if you're interested in cushion making for the Olympics, contributing pompoms (or spare wool) to a woolly art installation or adding to metres and metres of bunting - details are in the programme
• we've included a table of times and locations in the hall for this year's demonstrations - see the individual stallholders for details of what's happening and when.
• And there's a simple centimetre measure inside the front cover for anyone needing to check sizes.

The programme is also a quick reference to the practicalities of your day (or two) at Woolfest, from music and food to toilets and the wool creche . All this and dates for 2012 too.

We're looking forward to a fantastic festival and will see you in Cockermouth very soon.
